The Work-from-home model, demands a different routine than working in office, especially when it comes to our meal time.
When your home and office become essentially one entity, with work overload and kitchen within arm’s reach, it might feel like a battle to make smart eating choices. However, there are several ways to eat healthy while working from home.
#1 Maintain a meal schedule
Integrate the new schedule or new set of circumstances in your existing meal schedule.
Try to maintain the same routine for eating breakfast, lunch, and dinner as you would if you were working from office. Have meals at stipulated times with no fail.
#2 Healthy snacking
Fruits and vegetables are rich in nutrients and water content, so eating some of your favorite fruits as snacks in between meals can help you stay hydrated while also providing you with variety of nutrients.
#3 Don’t mistake thirst for hunger
Maintaining proper hydration is important for overall health and may help prevent overeating related to stress as people tend to eat more when they are dehydrated. Don’t mistake the feeling of thirst for hunger. It’s always better to substitute fruit smoothies and lemon water for caffeine drinks to boost energy.
#4 Move
Take short breaks in between video calls and work sprints, go for a short walk on the terrace or within the house. Do some stretching and get some fresh air. A little Vitamin D can do wonders for your mental health and productivity.
# 5 Do not work near your kitchen
Find yourself a nook where you are not in close reach of kitchen, and thus not constantly tempted to snack. Only visit the kitchen when having a meal or snack and never eat standing up, typing, or watching TV as multi-tasking while eating likely results in more eating, less fulfillment.
Working at home and eating healthy may seem like a tricky combo, and while it may take a little extra self-control and determination, it can be done. Taking care of oneself, working at a reasonable pace, taking frequent mini-breaks, and learning to relax, pause, breathe, and stretch during this process is equally essential.
